My producers and I were slightly ahead of the curve on this one, with a pre-recorded interview on the day before this story became heavily reported. It was great to have this already prepared for the show knowing that Breakfast may be the first place that listeners hear about the story.
The interview could probably have been only five minutes long, as while the information about the Ombudsman’s role was interesting it wasn’t really foreshadowed in the intro or the early questions. I also should have explained the term ‘bill shock’ in the intro as this doesn’t need to be explained by an expert.
Otherwise it’s a great example of working hard the day before to judge what will be important and interesting to our listeners 24 hours later.
